A bad example would be if you were talking about seo and used keywords involving cats and dogs or something really stupid along the lines of that, that has nothing to do with your site. I’m sure we all know of Googles drive to use website speed in the algorithm, so I thought you’d find this trick to speed up your site by 3 to 4 times using 2 lines of code interesting.
I’m sure it’ll work with any site, but it’s especially useful if you’re using a sluggish CMS like WordPress (I think this site is WordPress?).
Essentially if your server has zlib compression enabled you can add 2 lines of code above the doc type in your header.php, and when a visitors browser calls the pages, your server will automatically compress the page and send the compressed file to their browser.
I don’t want to hog the space here, so if you search for it in Google you should find various sites with instructions.
I’ve been trying it with some of my sites (it takes a couple of minutes to add the code), and it does indeed make a significant difference.

What difference to ranking do you think you’d see if a website moved from a fairly slow host to one of the faster ones – would you see much of a change at all?
I wanted to add these excellent tips I came across – I hope that’s alright.
Did you know that you can speed up WordPress and other CMS by up to 4 times – for FREE and easily!
You can just add a couple of lines of php to your header.php to activate ZLIB compression – that will make your blog (especially WordPress) up to 4 times faster instantly!
You can also GZip your css files, etc which will save even more bandwidth and make the blog load even faster. There’s at least one GZip plugin for wordpress.
You can (of course) also use free tools to compress or crunch images too, which makes sites load quicker still.
Don’t forget to use wp-supercache for wordpress sites as well!
You can learn exactly how to do this by searching on google for each technique.
It is amazing how much difference this will make to your sites speed.
One little problem to note is that right now the WordPress “all in one seo” plugin will stop creating the home page title you choose when you use compression and will instead show the blog title – but that’s not much of a problem and I’m sure it will eventually work with it.
